When I (Patty) was a corporate trainer for the airlines, I recall sitting in my boss’s office receiving a performance review in my early 20’s. I boldly asked my boss what she thought my strengths were. She stated, “You bring ‘Happy’ into the Training Department.” At that particular season in my life, I thought it was a pretty lame strength. I heard her comment as, “You have cute shoes, and pretty finger nails too!”
As the years went on, I began to see the value in that strength and how God has used it. I am sharing that snippet with you to say, find out your God-given strengths. Pray for them, look for them.
We live in a crazy grown up world, and it’s easy to think, “Oh no . . . I’m going to mess up Big Time: playing to our weaknesses!”
So . . .
Lean in to the Fear of Inadequacy: Push through it. It’s also the place that you will have the most amazing adrenaline rush. Feed off of it! It’s better than feeling apathetic and bored.
When I am feeling insecure, it also causes me to overcompensate. It’s a time when you are begging God to show-up.
So . . .
Relax: God’s got this! Now that you know it’s normal to be in the fetal position, petrified of messing up . . . let it go. Anxiety = Huge colossal waste of time. The story you are telling yourself, rarely ever happens. Relax.
Because when you are relaxing . . .
You will . . .
Have Fun! Sure, there is pressure, you have deadlines, and you want to say the perfect sentence, or be seen as the efficient super-star. When you hear occasional criticism, be able to take it, in the intent that it is given. Smile. Laugh. Giggle. Realize and value what you are bringing to the table. Enjoy what a sweet gig you have and be grateful. ALWAYS let God know how grateful you are.
Because when you are grateful . . .
You will . . . Always have JOY.
Joy brings happiness to the building. People will want that joy, They will want what you are having. Jesus.
